RENÉ FAVALORO
René Favaloro was a cardiovascular surgeon. He was born in La Plata, Argentina on July 12, 1923. His father was a carpenter, his mother was a dressmaker and he had one brother. When he was a child he loved playing football. At age eightteen he served at Word War II. At the end of the war he started medical studies at the University of La Plata and in 1949 he graduated. In that year, he started working at small, poor village in Buenos Aires. He developed on interest in thoracic surgery. When he was twentyeight years old he married Maria Antonia Delgado; they didn't have children.
In 1967 he performed the first reported planned coronary artery heart bypass operation on a fifty-one year old woman, and he became famous for his technique.
Eight years later, he established the famous "Favaloro Fundation".
Troughout his life he wrote several books, but he didn't receive the necessary support of funds from the governmental agencies for his noble work. For this reason he suicided in his house on July 29, 2000.
René Favaloro will always be our "ByPass Heroe".
